Shadowserver har nyligen gjort ett nytt test som visar hur bra antivirusleverantörernas program är på att upptäcka dagsfärska infektioner.

Angående AV-comparatives så finns det vissa frågetecken kring hur pålitliga deras "testresultat" egentligen är!

We have always put our money where our mouth is and provided top notch security for our end users for free! We relied on the strength of our product and our end users to spread the word about Comodo. AV-comparatives.org is a disservice to end users because they try very hard to cover the fact that they get big $ from antivirus vendors and provide misleading information about the role of “detection” in overall desktop protection.

 

I was hoping AV-Comparatives.org would change their ways and start providing valuable information to end users, they chose not to progress with time, they chose to stick to 1980s style of testing while ignoring the latest advancements in technology. Inability to inform end users of the latest protection capabilities in antivirus products and its performance while still “pushing” old style “dead malware” tests is simply misleading and disservice to end users.

Visst ska testleverantörerna granskas!

 

Tror det är svårt att få någon att ta tiden och göra arbetsinsatsen helt gratis. Tror heller inte att så värst många antivirusleverantörer skulle vara intresserade av att fortsätta betala gång efter annan för att delta i något tvivelaktigt. Nu finns det ju faktiskt leverantörer som väljer att inte delta i AV-Comparatives tester.

Melih har ju ofta lite udda åsikter och alltid väldigt starka, men man måste väl vara sådan när man startar ett företag med visioner om produkter vars marknad redan är överfull och konkurrensen stenhård. Det finns kända tillfällen när Comodos forum har censurerat personer med starkt negativa åsikter om Comodo. Vem är t ex denna Vlk som Melih adresserar i det som kallas "Post 1"?

För att göra diskussionen om AV-Comparatives mer allsidig så kompletterar jag med deras svar på Melihs blogg:

The costs that arise from the tests and demands from vendors should be covered by the vendors, as it is like an external quality assurance assessment (and they also use it for marketing). That vendors have to pay a fee (which is the same for all vendors, and of course has no influence on results) is publicly known, and also written inside the old methodology document which has been available on our website since at least 2008.

Melih continuously stated in his forum that we get paid by vendors, and insinuated that the payments have an influence on the results.

This is clearly not the case, as the confidential results we provided to Comodo (and which he published without permission) show.

Comodo paid us several times for conducting static detection tests of their software, and although they promised users in their forums that they will publish the results, they never did (they said to us it would be bad for their marketing and therefore they preferred to keep it internal).

Melih stated that we can only test for detection and not for protection.

This is not true. We test for protection in our Whole-Product-Dynamic Test (which is part of our public main test-series). Unfortunately, Comodo seems not to be interested in joining that test, as the results would be published.

...

Anyway, it is sad to see a vendor trying to publicly bully a testing organization by acting this way: making insinuations in their forum; criticising testing organizations if the results in commissioned tests are not as the vendor would like; publishing confidential/internal email correspondence without permission.
